The Stupid Party

So, I saw this on SNL a few weeks ago and I think it sums a lot of things up. I think it's amazing how the Republicans are now concerned about the national debt. These are the same folks who wanted to spend $400 million on a bridge to nowhere, who are currently spending $10 Billion a MONTH on a war that never should have happened (close to $600 billion according to The National Priorities Project), and who just kept running up the national debt!

And, now that the country has let them know that they don't trust them by electing more Democrats to congress, and a Democratic persident, they seem to have found their fiscal resposibility again. Of course this is only a joke wherein they play the devils advocate for everything, anything the Dems want, the repubs should oppose. I think that they are playing the wrong game, and I think that it will turn out to hurt them in the end. No one wants the minority party to just say no because they are the minority party, they want them to be constructive and help to find compromise. The Republicans keep saying there was no compromise in the stimulus package, but none of them attempted to make any suggestions that fit with where the bill was set to go. More tax breaks aren't going to do it, we're actually going to need to spend some money, and hopefully once the economy rebounds, we'll be in a good position to gain money and cut the deficit.

What a difference 8 years makes

Well, it's less than a week until hope arrives in Washington and despair heads back to Texas. The absolutely non-biased, fair and balanced people over at Salon put together a little article talking about the real cost of the Bush presidency. I think it's amazing that we went from having a $128 billion surplus when he took office to a deficit well over $2 trillion (10 trillion overall).

Of course it's not just about money (unless you're a republican). So read THIS and learn more.

A Little Rant

So - there's one thing that drives me CRAZY and it happened yesterday and I figured I'd write about it...

I'm a tall guy, with long legs and I take long strides and walk fast. That's just how I've always been. The most annoying thing is when someone who isn't walking faster than me runs to "pass" me and then proceeds to slow down so that I'm walking right up their ass. WTF!?! This happened yesterday as I was walking briskly to make an appointment on time. Some dude who I just walked by crosses the street by running (no cars coming) so he could get to the other side just before me, then he proceeds to slow down to his normal rate of walking, which is about half mine. So, I end up passing himn about 47 seconds later wondering what the hell he was thinking, and wanting to swear at him. I didn't.

This also annoys the hell out of me in my car. I'm much more likely to swear at cars that pass me only to then slow down to the speed limit. I WASN'T DOING THE SPEED LIMIT TO BEGIN WITH DUMBASS! What makes you think that I WANT to do the speed limit now that you're in front of me?

Undressing on the bus

So, I just don't get it. It's cold outside, you're wearing a jacket. You get on the bus. You take off your jacket and the fleece you were wearing under it. Now you're in a short-sleeve t-shirt. You fold your clothes and place them under the seat.

I mean, sure, the bus is warm, but it's no sauna. I just don't get it...
